Greetings Fans!

Today, January 7th is National Bobblehead Day.

NATIONAL BOBBLEHEAD DAY

Each year on January 7th, National Bobblehead Day recognizes a day of celebration for all spring-connected head bobbing figurines.

For over 100 years, bobbleheads have been entertaining and fascinating fans and collectors. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, too. Bobbleheads commemorate iconic teams, movies, and cartoon characters. Individually, they represent some of our most exciting athletes or thrilling television and movie characters.

Early bobbleheads, known as bobbers or nodders, developed from Germany. They took root in the United States pop culture in the 1950s and 60s. Bobbleheads resurged in the late 1990s when professional sports teams began using them as promotional items. Today, as both toys and collectibles, bobbleheads continue to amuse and captivate us.

HOW TO OBSERVE #NationalBobbleheadDay

Share your favorite bobblehead or collect a new one! Give the gift of a bobblehead to someone you know. Learn something new about bobblehead history. Use #NationalBobbleheadDay to post on social media.

NATIONAL BOBBLEHEAD DAY HISTORY

The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum submitted National Bobblehead Day in December 2014. On November 18, 2014, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum was announced. The museum opened in 2016 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and houses the world’s largest collection of bobbleheads. The building houses a tribute to the best of bobbleheads with a hall of fame and many exhibits related to the history and making of bobbleheads.

The Registrar at National Day Calendar proclaimed the day to be observed on January 7th annually in accordance with the policies set forth to designate a National Day.

Bobblehead Giveaway games are always very popular. There are Fans that buy a ticket to the game, go through the gate, get their bobblehead, turn around and leave with a bobblehead in hand smiling they have another one to add to their collection.

I was unaware there is a Bobblehead Hall of Fame in Milwaukee, WI…

Great displays…

Due to the Pandemic and our season being canceled our bobblehead giveaways at the game didn't happen. However, the PawSox had a different kind of giveaway. On different days Fans would register online to pick up their bobbleheads at McCoy Stadium, show up, and be handed their bobbleheads. Nice and easy.

As stated earlier, the bobblehead giveaways are very popular. Bobbleheads are collected, sold, bought, or traded. What increases the value of a bobblehead is if it's autographed.

At the end of every season, we would make arrangements with a player that was the bobblehead giveaway during the season, to meet with the player before the game so he could sign a case. He would sign a couple of cases, and we would give him a case. The ones that were autographed were used to donate to charities they would use for fundraising raffles or auctions.

Once the date and time were arranged I would meet the player prior to the game in the player's family room. I would lay out the bobbleheads on the table…These are the Mookie Betts bobbleheads…

Mookie met up with me in the room and signed them. We talked about his time with the PawSox and how he loved playing there and met so many good people and was a class organization. Mookie is not just a great player, he truly is a great guy.

He signed his bobblehead on the cap visor…

Thanks, Mookie!

Mookie is also a great pro bowler. He always enjoyed taking part in the PawSox Annual Tomorrow Fund Bowling event. The event gives all Fans a chance to bowl with their favorite players. One of the many PawSox charitable events during the season.

Mookie has bowled a perfect game!

Boston Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts bowls a perfect 300 game during the Scorpion Championship at the 2017 World Series of Bowling at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nevada. Here are his ninth and 10th frames.

You may be one that has an autographed bobblehead from someone. Display them proudly! Enjoy your National Bobblehead Day. Think about all the games the PawSox gave away bobbleheads being “Here For You!”

Love hearing from you at rickm@pawsox.com or rickm@woosox.com

Yours in Baseball,

Rick Medeiros.
